When should your child see the dentist?
Age 3 is not too soon to have your child's dental health thoroughly evaluated. Chances are, everything is fine. But if there is a problem, treating it in the early stages will keep procedures simple and costs to a minimum.
And we definitely want to see every chipped tooth from a tumble or any gaps left too far in advance of the tooth fairy's normal arrival.
To encourage this kind of preventive care, we make every effort to ensure that dental phobia never develops, with a caring attitude and a soft touch.
Sealants
Due to fluorides in toothpastes and in some water supplies, cavities in children and young adults have decreased dramatically; however, fluorides have little or no effect on the bite or chewing surface of a tooth. A young person's growing teeth have deep pits and fissures that almost always collect food and bacteria. Because the pits are so deep often a toothbrush or even a dental pick cannot reach the trapped food and a cavity develops. Sealants can fill the deep pits and keep the tooth surface cavity free.
What Is a Sealant?
Sealant is a liquid resin that bonds to the tooth enamel and fills-up the deep tooth crevices, sealing out food and bacteria. Sealants are a comfortable procedure. They are placed without drilling, without a shot and in a single visit. They are an easy cost effective way for children to be cavity free! Most insurance companies will pay for sealants. Bring your children and teenagers in for a sealant treatment. It's worth it!
Mouth Guards
Over 5 million teeth are knocked out every year in sporting activities!
The American Dental Association recommends that children, teenagers and even adults who are active in sports wear a custom fabricated mouth guard - Sports Guard.
A store bought (a boil and fit) mouth guard is far from ideal because they do not fit correctly often interfering with breathing and speaking. They can also place pressure on certain teeth.
Our office makes custom, professional -grade mouth guards that fit correctly and provides a better chance of preventing injury.
A tooth lost to a sporting activity could cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars to replace. Up to 20 times more than a custom fabricated mouth guard.
